A recall by serial number, traced to the customers who bought the units

What you build
Nothing new. Who bought them: the engine's Serial No Ledger (Desk › Stock), the recalled item and the serial number of one unit: its movement out by a sale names the customer it was sold to. Stop the rest: a Stock Entry of type Material Transfer moves the recalled units still in stock to a store no till sells from (a warehouse on no POS Profile); the till sells a serial only from its own store, so it refuses them. The units brought back: with sample S58, each is a repair of kind Recall work under its serial.
Limits
- Look each unit up by its own serial: listed by the item alone, a sale line that carried several units names its buyer on the first unit's row only.
- A till sale shows in the ledger once its day's sales are booked to stock: at once on some sites, at the day's close on others.
- A walk-in sale names the store's walk-in customer: no one to contact.
- An offline till learns of the move only when it next syncs: a recalled unit it sold meanwhile is refused then, and that sale stays held on the till until a manager settles it.
- The report is on the stock ledger: Stock User opens it, Sales User alone does not. It shows customers' names: give it only to whoever runs the recall.
- A recall by lot (food, medicine) is a different need: sample S40, Expiry and recall.
Tell the customer
When a maker recalls units, the store finds who bought each recalled serial from its own stock ledger and moves the rest out of the tills' reach; each unit brought back is recorded under its serial.
What next
- Tell the customer the 6 limits above, and write them into the proposal.
- Follow the recipe: Repairs by serial number.
- Copy the sample: S58 — Repairs by serial number (pp_rpr), and change it.
- Build and test it on your sandbox (request one if you have none; what is on it).
- Check it on your sandbox as the people who will use it; where it touches a price or a total, the money kit's release gate proves it (testing and release).
- Make the same settings on the customer's site, from the list you wrote down, through the customer's own change process.
Nothing to code: write down each setting you make on your sandbox, so it is made the same way on the customer's site.
