A coupon or promotion that covers every group under a parent item group

The customer asks: A coupon for Supplements should cover every supplement, Protein and Vitamins included

What you build

The till's coupon and promotion engines match an item's own item group exactly, so a row naming a parent group misses its children. An outside app on the event feed writes a coupon's get rows and a promotion's exclusion rows out as the child groups, and keeps them so when a group is added or moved.

Limits

Tell the customer

A coupon or promotion set on a parent group covers every group under it, kept up to date a few seconds after each change.

What next

  1. Tell the customer the 5 limits above, and write them into the proposal.
  2. Follow the recipe: A coupon or promotion for a parent item group.
  3. Copy the sample: S31 — Parent item groups in coupons and promotions (pp_pgx), and change it.
  4. Build and test it on your sandbox (request one if you have none; what is on it).
  5. Run the checks: your own tests, the kit's checks and the money kit's release gate (testing and release).
  6. Release through the customer's own release gate (14. Testing and release); an app other shops install goes through the App library.

Stop your service for a while and start it again: it must catch up from the event feed, missing nothing.
